Workshop with SVUNG from Budapest
How do space and objects choreograph one's own movement? A group of artists from Budapest will present their practice of participatory dance making in the studio/gym context as well as in historical and ecologically significant public places.
On 29th and 30th April, the group SVUNG from Budapest will give an insight into their practice of participatory dance making in school and out-of-school contexts.
Their approach explores how space choreographs one's own movements, and we will explore different methodological approaches in the studio (Saturday) as well as in public space (Sunday).
The members of SVUNG (Ágnes Grélinger, Kinga Szemessy, Napsugár Trömböczky) are dancers, performers and applied theatre experts who have worked in theatre, schools and experimental arts education.
The workshop is divided into the following parts:
Saturday, 29th April 2023 - in the studio - workshop for dance professionals
10:00 am - 11:00 am RED workshop:
This one-hour, self-guided workshop aims to give an insight into some of the most important aspects of SVUNG's work: Space as mediator/choreographer, beyond language and instruction.
A prepared (red) space, altered with objects/materials, invites experimentation with things and other bodies, brings into dialogue and abducts creativity, thereby the space becomes a mediator, inspires and generates movements, alone or in dialogue with others? A very pleasurable and aesthetic approach to inviting people into movement without "instructing" them, regardless of age, origin and language, as well as previous dance experience.
11:00 am - 11:30 am Reflection and general introduction to SVUNG
11:30 am - 2:00 pm DIY Warm up!:
This is a practical introduction to SVUNG's pre-performance audience warm-up design. We will watch a performance together, and then explore ways how we could process the material in order to prepare the spectators not for a cognitive understanding but rather corporeally.
Sunday, 30th April 2023 - Dance Walk through the Alter Südfriedhof - open community workshop for all
10:00 am - 1:30 pm Geodiverse / No Endpoint:
Everyone who is curious to get a physical approach to a historically very important cemetery in Munich is invited to this workshop.
Cemeteries are symbolic spaces of finitude, the walk is an invitation to connect with this special place through the body and perception.
This workshop is a fusion of two events we made: the 'No Endpoint' 12 hours performative vigil in an abandoned, yet reforested and landfilled cemetery, and the 'Geodiverse' slowwalk that we guided together with a geologist.
Colleagues now have the opportunity to get to know the Svung way of working again in the context of a community group.
The workshop will be held in English and German.

Storytelling with sounds, images and movement in music theatre for young audiences
Workshop with Christiane Plank-Baldauf, music dramaturge and professor (e.g. Theatre Academy August Everding and LMU / Theatre Studies)
This workshop focuses on the exploration of an extended sound material and its theatrical effect. For example, what does paper sound like, what "ways of playing" are there and how can these noises and sounds be used for a scenic realisation of Jutta Nauer's picture book "The Queen of Colours".
In a final reflection with all participants, the conceptual considerations and work steps are compiled and evaluated.
The workshop is aimed at theatre makers, musicians, mediators and students.

Conchances / Erasmus project 2019-2022
Since 2019 (interrupted by the pandemic), the Erasmus project Conchances has taken place under the leadership of Fokus Tanz with five different European organisations and dance artists in close exchange to develop methods and share experiences in dance mediated work with diverse groups of young people with and without impairments. According to the expertise of the individual organisations, the group dealt intensively with questions of safe space, participation, democracy-sensitive working methods, self-care and the role of the team in dance mediation. Andrea Marton and Lara Paschke would like to share this knowledge with interested parties in a practical workshop.
The workshop is aimed at all those who work with children, young people and adults in dance education.
