Fokus Tanz | Tanz und Schule e.V. has been offering children and young people access to artistic practice in school and non-school contexts through professional dance artists since 2006, with a focus on contemporary dance education and qualification. Every year, the organization realizes more than 80 artistic projects in 30 educational institutions in Munich. The educational work is part of the initiative ACCESS TO DANCE - Tanzplan München, which contributes to the promotion and strengthening of contemporary dance in Munich and Bavaria. Fokus Tanz designs advanced training programs for dancers and dance teachers and realizes participatory art projects in collaboration with museums, orchestras and theaters. Together with European partners, Fokus Tanz realizes a professional exchange on best practice in dance for all in the project conchances.

 

In 2011, Fokus Tanz founded the international Think Big! Festival for contemporary dance, performance and music theater for young audiences. Initially in cooperation with Campus/Bayerisches Staatsballett and from 2018 in partnership with Schauburg, Städtisches Theater für junges Publikum, the biennial festival makes a significant contribution to communicating the performing arts with a focus on dance to a broad audience and creates venues for international networking and exchange among dance professionals.

 

Since 2014, Fokus Tanz has been a partner in the cross-state production network explore dance - Tanz für junges Publikum (TANZPAKT Stadt-Land-Bund), which was awarded the Faust Perspective Prize in 2019. In partnership with Fabrik Potsdam, K3 Tanzplan Hamburg and HELLERAU Europäisches Zentrum der Künste Dresden, the network produces and presents 8 to 10 pieces annually and invites at annual platforms to professional exchange.

 

Fokus Tanz is a member of the Landesvereidigung Kulturelle Bildung Bayern and the Bundesverband Aktion Tanz I Tanz in Bildung und Gesellschaft (Board: Martina Kessel, Andrea Marton, Graham Smith). The association was awarded the honorary prize of the German Dance Award for outstanding development in dance in 2022.
